The Restructuring Negotiation Competition 2023 is an annual affair that is jointly organized by the SMU Corporate & Commercial Law Club (COCO)and BlackOak LLC.

The competition kicked off on May 19th with 22 teams from both NUS and SMU presenting their proposed restructuring plans to a panel of judges from BlackOak. Out of these 22 teams, 8 progressed to the Semi-Finals which were held on 27 May 2023 at the SMU Yong Pung How School of Law. This round was judged by Professor Stephen Bull from SMU YPHSOL, as well as Mr Derrick Teo, Ms Shu Kit, and Mr Khai Chong from BlackOak LLC. On the merit of impressive negotiation skills, teams 4, 9, 14 and 17 advanced to the finals before our esteemed Judges – Judicial Commissioner Yihan Goh, Ms. Clare Wee, Ms. Angelina Bopp, Professor Pey Woan Lee, and Mr. Darius Tay – on 30 May 2023.

And the winners of the Restructuring Negotiation Competition 2023 are….

BEST ORALIST: Mickel Ng (NUS)

FIRST PLACE: Team 4 – Tay Kuan Loong Seth, Li Ming Han, Ryan Chan Chao Qing (NUS)

FIRST RUNNER UP: Team 14 – Jonathan Teo Yue Yi, Clarissa Ng Ming Yi, Benjamin Bay Yung Ern (SMU)

SECOND RUNNER UP: Team 9 – Jiang Yu Hang, Mickel Ng (NUS)
